Although the Jesuit Junior Varsity soccer team started off the regular season on Tuesday the 25th with a loss to district rival W.T. White, expectations and goals for the rest of the season remain high. Early in the game, the Longhorns sent a shot into the box, bouncing freely for either team to win.

To Jesuit’s dismay, W.T. White was able to sneak the ball in and take an early lead. W.T. White didn’t let up the pressure, quickly yelling after the goal, “Play like it is 0-0.” Jesuit’s goalie, J.D. Feist ’13, was able to fend off all the other shots for the rest of the half. Right before halftime, Ryan Su ’13 and Brandon Ozier ’14 each had a quality shot attempt but barely missed. After a quick halftime break, Jesuit took the field with grit and determination to put the ball into the back of the net. The second half consisted of complete domination in possession and shot opportunities by Jesuit, mainly coming from one of the five freshmen playing on JV, Sean Badger ’14. Badger also controlled the middle and switched the ball, playing many brilliant through balls to Ozier and Su. As hard as Jesuit worked, none of the shot opportunities could get past W.T. White’s tall and quick goalkeeper. Some may think that a loss this early would be devastating, but Feist stated with confidence, “We are going to bounce back and win the Allen tournament,” which starts on Thursday, January 27. Led by Coach David Williams’ example, the JV players held their heads high and played with class, representing Jesuit in a great manner. In addition to positive attitude from the players, the rest of the student body remained positive as well. Marty Murad, dedicated fan and star athlete, told me, “I hope they play really well and do a great job. That each player plays to the best of his ability everyday.” Led by a phenomenal coach, these talented and determined players will fight to win this upcoming season. If you are interested in watching the Jesuit Junior Varsity team, they play Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, January 27-29 in the Allen tournament.
