“Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing” – Vince Lombardi
The words of legendary coach Vince Lombardi perfectly encapsulate the result of the Jesuit JV football game versus Richardson last Thursday the 29th. Pulling in a 42-0 win, the boys returned home triumphantly with their heads held high.
Playing tremendously well, they executed on almost every opportunity, scoring the majority of their points the first half. “Everything seemed to work out for us; we passed well, ran well, and our defense was unstoppable,” said Gus Walker ‘18. This win was a much needed morale booster for the boys in blue and gold, after losing their last game to Coppell despite a valiant effort. Gus Walker commenting again, saying, “It felt good to give such a good effort and to pull in a win because of it. I feel that because we haven’t pulled in too many wins so far this season, we haven’t been able to go into our next games with confidence. But now because we beat Richardson, we will continue this streak.”
JV Coach Rick Leal also felt that this was an important win, commenting that “we played well and got a win because of it. We’ve figured out what works for the boys as a coaching staff, and the boys will play even better next week.” When asked what worked well in the game, Leal responded, “Our run game was great; we effectively penetrated the defense and got a high yardage per play count. We also dominated on defense. We didn’t let them put up any points which is big.”
Clearly this was a great win for the Jesuit JV, and we will all be looking forward to another win in their upcoming game against Skyline.
