The Jesuit Rangers 2010-11 football season came to a close Saturday night at SMU’s Ford Stadium after the Rangers lost a hard fought playoff game to Rowlett 35-28. At the end of the fourth quarter, Jesuit seemingly recovered an onside kick with about a minute to go and down 35-28. However, much to the Jesuit student section’s displeasure, the referees determined the kick was touched by Jesuit before going ten yards. Rowlett recovered the re-kick and downed the ball to run out the final seconds. Sophomore WR Jake Oliver produced his best game of probably the best sophomore season ever by a Jesuit player, catching 15 passes for 238 yards and a touchdown. Senior QB Mike Savage passed for 316 yards and three touchdowns and no turnovers. The game looked favorable in the opening minutes for Jesuit as Junior RB Christian Franz electrified the Jesuit crowd with a 30 yard touchdown run to give Jesuit the early lead. However, Rowlett’s offense was more than willing to match Jesuit and then take the lead 21-14 at the half. Senior WR Logan Brown caught 12 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns, and Senior RB Treyvon Green ran 29 times for 147 yards and two scores as Rowlett built a score of 35-14 going into the final quarter. Jesuit would then score 14 unanswered points and get within a touchdown of tying Rowlett. However, Rowlett had no thoughts of giving up the lead. “It was a good season and I’m proud to have played with these guys,” says Senior OL Preston Paine. ” We battled till the very end.”
