“I feel really good about making it to the finals because it tells me that all the work that was done over the summer really payed off and that it wasn’t for nothing.”- Joseph Amador ’23

The hefty robots collide, scrambling to collect scoring elements for their team as the passionate crowd’s cheering fills the stadium. The Jesuit FRC Robotics team return to the field placing 2nd in the first off-season tournament this year!

Since September, the Robotics team have been working for many hours throughout the previous months in order to make a machine that could win in the upcoming off-season tournament in the Woodlands and help them prepare for the up-coming season. The Rangers arrived in the Woodlands ready to win. Starting off the competition were Lorenzo Hidalgo ’23 and Andy Ferrer-Falto ’23 driving and operating the robot. They took the lead getting 52 points on their first run through the competition.

Lorenzo Hidalgo ’23 exclaimed, “It was exciting and tense, but I think at the end we were able to pull off getting the points.”

To finish the competition, Joseph Amador ’23 and Dominic Orwig ’23 took the wheel and drove the robot up to 2nd place, with a clean 2-0 record against each of their opponents in the elimination stages as well as the semi-finals.

Here came the finals which came down to a best of 3. After a stressful loss in the first match, one of our alliance’s robots broke leading us to enter a sub for the next game. With the loss of a valuable teammate, we sadly lost the second game with a very close score. Despite the challenges the team faced, the team kept their spirits high and were able to win 2nd place.
