The Jesuit Varsity Gold Hockey team has kicked off the season with a strong presence, notching two impressive victories against McKinney and Flower Mound/Marcus. These wins showcased the Rangers’ offensive abilities and advanced them to the second-place position in the varsity gold league standings.

McKinney

On Wednesday, September 27, at 7:15pm, the Rangers faced off against McKinney High School Varsity Gold at the StarsCenter in Richardson. The Rangers were hardworking and unrelenting, battling hard to secure 7 goals and a shutout.

The First Period

The first period started out without much offensive action, as both teams had lockdown defense and great goaltending. As the period continued, the game got more intense. Jesuit Dallas took two penalties in the first, one on Connor Sughrue ’24 and the other on Brandon Peppard ’25. Jesuit was able to bounce back, however. With a smart passing play by Allen Zhang ’26, Max Reynolds ’27 was able to secure the first goal of the game. Recently, the underclassmen hockey players at Jesuit Dallas have been stepping up their game, and playing a vital role on the Rangers offense.

The Second Period

Another underclassman, Will Hubble ’26, was able to put the puck in the back of the net with his excellent shot. This goal, in the first minute of the period, was made possible on a passing play by Andrew Theisen ’25. The game continued, and Jesuit Dallas dominated throughout, with many scoring opportunities. Senior goalie Misha Saratovtsev ’24 had an outstanding performance, making 25 saves against McKinney. He led the team to its victory through some of his remarkable saves. The Rangers battled through two penalties, and were able to put many shots on the McKinney goalie on their three power plays in the second period. In the last two minutes of the period, Liam Placke ’24 scored a goal on a quick passing play by Rex Garrick ’26 and Conor Parro ’25.

The Third Period

The third period started with a bang with a goal by defenseman Jackson Deininger ’24 on a hard and deceptive shot. His goal, putting the Rangers up 5 to 0, defeated McKinney’s spirits and allowed Jesuit Dallas to continue to put points on the board. Just a minute later, Rex Garrick netted the puck, after a skilled pass by Liam Placke ’24. The Rangers continued to dominate through the period, and their offensive control continued. McKinney received a roughing penalty halfway through the period. On this power play, the Rangers moved the puck swiftly, forcing McKinney out of its positioning. After a deceptive passing play by Andrew Theisen ’25 and Max Reynolds ’27, Allen Zhang ’26 was able to put the Rangers up by a sixth goal. In the last five minutes of the game, Senior Captain Jack Bowditch ended the Ranger’s offensive rampage with a goal of his own.

Flower Mound/Marcus

On Wednesday, October 4, at 7:15pm, the Rangers faced off against Flower Mound/Marcus High School Varsity Gold at the StarsCenter in Farmers Branch.

The First Period

The Rangers’ match against Flower Mound/Marcus began with some physicality, and with quick penalties by both teams. Jesuit’s forward, Thomas Fino ’25, and a Flower Mound player were sent to the penalty box, creating a two minute 4 on 4 situation. Seizing the opportunity, Allen Zheng ’26 capitalized with a goal just two minutes into the first period, on an assist from Andrew Theisen ’25. Flower Mound swiftly responded with a goal of their own, continuing an evenly contested first period. The Rangers continued to battle, and during a power play, Connor Sughrue ’24 found the back of the net with a hard shot, on an excellent passing play from Will Hubble ’26 and Wade Bryan ’26. Flower Mound managed to squeeze in another goal just before the intermission, evening the game.

The Second Period

The second period was a hard-fought battle, with a minor penalty on Will Hubble ’26 for Roughing. Both teams competed hard, resulting in a great number of close scoring opportunities. Finally, freshman Max Reynolds ’27 scored, giving the Rangers a 1 goal lead, and providing the team with the momentum needed to dominate the 3rd period.

The Third Period

Andrew Theisen ’25 earned the first goal of the third period, firing a quick shot into the net following a smart passing play by Allen Zhang ’26 and Jack Reynolds ’25. Jesuit continued their offensive style, trying to score another goal. However, a defensive lapse just a minute later allowed Flower Mound to respond with another goal, tightening the score to 4-3. The Rangers continued their offensive push, aiming to extend their lead. Will Hubble ’26 made a bold individual effort, resulting in a fifth goal, which put the Rangers ahead by two. The team continued to dominate their opponents, finishing with another two goals at the end of the game. During a power play, Max Reynolds ’27 netted his second goal of the game, thanks to a team play made by Andrew Theisen ’25 and Wade Bryan ’26. Finally, in the last minute of the game, sophomore Rex Garrick ’26 sealed the victory with a goal, assisted by Thomas Fino ’25 and Mitchell Zenick ’25.
