This past Friday, November 11, 2022, the Jesuit Rangers beat the Arlington Colts 41-14 in a convincing victory in the first round of UIL 6A DII Bi-District Playoffs.

“We dominated all parts of the game, firing on all cylinders.”

Past History

Due to UIL zoning, Jesuit often finds themselves playing Arlington in the first round of the playoffs, the Bi-District round. Jesuit has played Arlington in the first round in the past five years of playoffs. The first three times Jesuit played Arlington, Jesuit lost two, of them being home losses. In 2021, Jesuit earned their first victory over Arlington with a 69-36 victory over the Colts at home. Robert Fitzgerald ’22 scored five touchdowns in the game.

Game Recap

Jesuit came out hot with a big passing play from Senior QB1 Charlie Schmidt ’23, who put the Rangers in the red zone. Unfortunately for the Rangers, they could not convert and were forced to kick a field goal. Luckily, sophomore sensation Noah McGough ’25 has been unstoppable all season and kicked in his first field goal of the night. However, the Colts took this personally and scored a touchdown on back-to-back drives. That is when the Rangers responded, however.

Helped with a slew of flags against the Colts, Jesuit went on a scoring rampage as Charlie Schmidt ran for two touchdowns before the half, before coming back out and rushing it in for two more. After rushing for four touchdowns, Schmidt hit Jaeger Krauss ’25 in stride to score a touchdown. They finished it off with a two-point conversion with a pass to Jake Musso ’23. McGough also kicked another field goal in the half.

This great effort from the offense was helped by phenomenal plays from the defense, as the defense pressured the Colts in the pocket all night long and limited their rushing game. The Roundup’s own Editor in Chief Logan Thompson ’24 had a key pass breakup in the fourth quarter to diminish Arlington’s hopes of a comeback.

These efforts were enough to hand the Rangers a 41-14 victory, advancing them to Round 2 of the playoffs.
