( Jake Fults celebrating a walk-off double by Donald Boyles)

Starting off their 2023 campaign, our Jesuit Baseball team traveled down to Austin to start off the season. Lots of fans have high hopes for the season after the previous successful seasons.

 vs. Lake Travis:

Mid-day on Thursday afternoon, Jesuit’s first game against a top-ranked Lake Travis team was an exciting start to the season. Junior Joe Allen’s first varsity start was one to remember as he pitched a full game and held Lake Travis to only one earned run, while striking out seven batters. The Rangers’ offense came up short, only notching 4 hits. The Rangers ended up tying 2-2 in an exciting game.

vs. Weiss:

Later that night, the Rangers took on Weiss High School. The Rangers offense came to life when sophomore Jake Fults hit a solo shot. Both Fults and senior Jonah Timmons had multi-hit games. But Wiess kept up with the Ranger offense with ten hits themselves. Walks plagued the Rangers pitchers and errors allowed for long innings, allowing Wiess to take the win in the last inning 7-8.

vs.  Austin Bowie:

Sophomore Dillon Brandt had his first start at midday Friday against Arlington Bowie High School. This game was a scrappy game from start to finish. Both teams made costly errors with two outs leading to runs. This resulted in a 7-7 tie to end the game. Dillon Brandt had this to say about his first varsity start.

“I felt good going into the game, I wasn’t too nervous. I gave up some weak ground balls early but I felt good about my performance after persevering through a rough two innings of things out of my control.” – DILLON BRANDT ’25

vs. Temple:

(Junior Pitcher Jaxx Rigelsky)

Late Friday night, the Rangers were slotted up to play Temple. Temple got out to an early 1-4 lead in the first inning due to some timely hits and some errors. Then, junior Jaxx Rigelsky locked in allowing only one run through the remaining six innings. The Rangers couldn’t capitalize on baserunners and ended up losing 2-5.

vs. Harlan:

Early Saturday morning, the Rangers matched up against Harlan High School. They found themselves down 3-5 in the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs and the bases loaded when Jake Fults stepped up to the plate. He crushed a fastball over the left fielder’s head and one hopping the wall with the wind blowing in, clearing the bases and walking off Jesuit’s first win of the 2023 season in dramatic fashion. The Rangers won 6-5.

vs. San Antonio O’Connor:

(Senior Pitcher Luke Isett)

Coming off a walk off win, the Rangers started off fast with 4 runs in the first 3 innings and felt especially confident with senior Luke Isett on the bump. He ended up throwing a complete game with only two earned runs and four punchouts. Jake Fults continued to stay hot going 3 for 4 with two doubles. Jonah Timmons and senior Jack Strong also had multi-hit games. The Rangers ended up pulling out the win with some well-executed situational offense 7-6 to finish the weekend on a high note.

“It was great to be back out competing on the field. Although it could’ve been better, we figured out several things we need to improve on, including communication, attention to detail, and execution in key moments. I’m excited to see where the season takes us.” – Jonah Timmons ’23

The Rangers are back at it again this coming week where they’ll host the Collin County Invitational starting Thursday at 11 AM. Come out and support the team and fill up the student section! Go Rangers!
