University of Alabama. A national powerhouse in American football that will do whatever it takes to win the College Football Championship. This week, after being first in the SEC West, Alabama truly asserted its dominance over Ohio State, crushing them 52-24. Over the past years, Alabama has demonstrated its candidacy as the best football program in America, but the question arises: Is this year’s team the greatest team in college football history?

National Championship Recap

A 3 and out to start the game would be a sign of what was coming, as Alabama stomped the Buckeyes winning 52-24. Ohio State would stay in the game with some big plays, but you can’t win like that, especially when the team you’re lining up against arguably the best offense in recent memory. A huge part of the loss was Ohio State’s inability to create consistent scoring drives which can be directly attributed to the loss of Trey Sermon. OSU’s defense played very physically which worked against the tide early on, (Key word: early on) as Devonta Smith would explode for 3 touchdowns and 215 yards in one half. Alabama’s incredible ability to move downfield was what won the game and made Alabama the best in the country.

The Greatest Team Ever?

I now ask the question, “Is this team the best CFB team ever?” We all know Nick Saban breeds greatness, but this team was just special. In my 15 years of life, I have never quite seen such a dominant receiver as Smith. A quarterback that rarely makes mistakes like Mac Jones does. A running back group led by ESPN top 10 plays regular, Najee Harris. This three-headed monster was unstoppable throughout the year. Even their defense was extremely talented but under appreciated because of the attention the offense drew. All of these things present the fact that they are one of the best teams in history but in my opinion not the best. The 2019-2020 LSU team in my mind is the best CFB team I’ve ever seen play the game. You could make the case for either, but Joe Burrow’s performance is the advantage in my mind.

Any college football fan or even casual football fan knows Nick Saban brings in this caliber of talent every single year. In fact, he’s projected to send 5 players to the NFL in the first round. He’s bringing in the top recruiting in the country with 7 5-star recruits. This is how he wins championships, 7 to be exact. Coach Saban breeds greatness and doesn’t accept anything but it. Coach Saban’s victory over OSU solidifies him as the greatest coach of all time, and when the day comes that he retires, he will be remembered as the best to ever do it.
