This Thursday night, September 20, 2012, father-son duos from Jesuit will attend the highly anticipated Father-Son Poker Night. The annual Father-Son Poker Night is held in September each year to give fathers and sons a chance to bond with each other, as well as with other father-son pairs, while having the opportunity to win prizes, raise money for Jesuit, and of course play some good old-fashioned poker.

The Father-Son Poker Night has always been a memorable night as long as it has been a tradition at Jesuit, and is sure to live up to its reputation this year. At this year’s Father-Son Poker Night, there will be a wide variety of games ranging from blackjack and roulette to craps–and maybe even a game of washers if everything goes well.

The night’s main event, however, will be the Texas Hold’em tournament, which will cost an extra $25.  The fortunate winners of the tournament will receive a VISA gift card worth $250.  Then of course, there are the 15 other highly coveted prizes that everyone strives to obtain, which include Beats headphones and free Chick-Fil-A for an entire year.  Rest assured that while fathers and sons mingle and play games, these prizes will be in the back of their minds.

Of course this night does not just happen on its own; it takes months of hard work and planning: from calling and scheduling caterers to hiring poker companies. All of these duties and more fall to the Auction Committee at Jesuit and its leader, Mrs. Deck.

Mrs. Deck stressed the importance of the event, and described it as “an opportunity for the community to get together and enjoy an evening, [as well as an opportunity to] raise money for the auction and the Jesuit endowment, [which goes to] help faculty and students at Jesuit as well as provide need-based financial aid to students.”

The event, every year, proves to be a great earner for these unique causes. Mrs. Deck added that she “like[s] to see the drawing for the prizes. Everyone gets excited to see who gets what.” How could you not be excited with such a great night of fun and prizes?

This Thursday night is sure to be a night to remember for the fathers and sons of Jesuit College Prep. They will get a chance to bond, have fun, play poker, and most importantly, help their community. There is no better way to spend a night.
