It is rumored that Donald Trump came out of his mother’s womb sporting his iconic blonde comb-over toupee. Simply put, that is only a rumor; what is not, however, is Trump’s position in the GOP. He leads the polls, well ahead of the other candidates. Why? It’s because he’s a no BS kind of guy, who does things his way whether you like it or not. He cuts straight to the issues at hand, rather than dancing around fantastical ideas that would otherwise get him the popular vote (looking at you, Hillary). He challenges every candidate in the Republican Party, which has led to some speculating that he will eventually split off from the party and run as an Independent. Others conjecture that he will initiate that final “push” to bring the Republican Party’s shift in voter base and policies together full circle. Whether you like him or not, you’ve got to at least respect him. So, without further ado, let’s discuss Trump’s policies.
Donald Trump’s stance on abortion floats along the moderately conservative area of the political spectrum. Moderate in the fact that abortion should be allowed, conservative in that it should be limited. In January, Trump told Bloomberg News that he believes “Abortion should be banned at some point in pregnancy, with exceptions for rape, incest or life of the mother.”
To clarify, Trump is pro-life at heart, but believes “It is a personal decision that should be left to the women and their doctors.” This is the first example of Trump’s shift of views in the Republican Party (and also where all evangelical socially liberal-leaning Christian Americans jump for joy).
Surprisingly, Trump is also for the legalization of all drugs and narcotics. In the 90’s, he’s quoted as saying, “The only way to win the War on Drugs was to legalize drugs and use the tax revenue to fund drug education programs. As he put it, “You have to take the profit away from these drug czars.” That’s economically and socially ingenious, if you ask me. Oh, and speaking of economics, Trump set the “point of no return” for debt at $24T. Currently, we’re sitting at $18T. Think about it, people. That’s only $6T away. In Obama’s presidency alone, our nation’s debt has increased by over $7T. Maybe if all our defense spending wasn’t going toward security-purpose heavy artillery, if it was more focused on terrorism, like Trump said in July of 2000, we wouldn’t be neck deep in debt.
Trump recognizes that universal healthcare is a must. He proposes that we “save Medicare and Medicaid without cutting them to the bone, but kill ObamaCare before it becomes a trillion-ton weight.”
No doubt, Trump is an economic genius at the roots. That said, his foreign policy is appalling. He’s quoted as saying, “I will build the greatest and biggest wall you have ever seen [regarding the wall between the U.S. and Mexico]. I’m gonna make Mexico pay for it, too.” Not to mention, when asked a question in Spanish by a Hispanic woman, he responded with, “This is America. We speak English.” I’m not sure whether to classify this as ignorance or insolence, but either word fits the description.
I think Donald Trump would know how to run the United States…economically speaking. Anyone who can run a multi-billion dollar business would surely have some experience in executive decision-making. His foreign policy could get us into some deep trouble as well, and possibly piss off some pretty threatening countries, like Iran. At the end of the day, you have to decide whether or not you can honestly see Donald Trump calling the shots for this great country. It’s your choice.
