Suffrage is the pivotal right – Susan B. Anthony

Voting is a civic sacrament.
– Rev. Theodore Hesburgh, C.S.C.

A man without a vote is a man without protection.
– Lyndon B. Johnson

“The ballot is stronger than the bullet.”
– Abraham Lincoln

These sage words from some of the most important and profound Americans in our history depict not only the necessity of the democratic system but also its nature as a privilege. Voting illustrates the uniqueness of the homo sapien amongst all other beings, the ability to not only develop a complex opinion on a multitude of topics, but also the ability to believe in another human being to act in their best interest based on their own belief system. The ability to vote truly represents the best in humanity, a selfless exhibition of one’s trust in another human being to act in their best interest.

Each year this incredibly beautiful and sometimes messy process takes place in the halls of 12345 Inwood Road. Our student body votes on two young men to represent their voice within the school. Many honorable and esteemed Rangers attempt campaigns, each representing a unique perspective and intense work ethic.

However, only one pair of Rangers can win. This last year, Chris Simington ’24 and Drew Noonan ’24 won the election in a landslide. Now in this year’s election, the margins proved to be much slimmer as three groups moved on from the initial primary. These groups included Max Sabogal and Brannon Suchala, Henry Bourret and Brody Carlson, and finally Cole Hatzmann and Aidan Raymond. To find the profiles of each of these candidates you can follow this link to The Roundup’s campaign profiles.

Thoughts from Future President and Vice President

Following the victory I had the opportunity to talk to each candidate. The following represents my questions and the victors’ answers

This question goes for both of you. Do you have any opening words for your constituents?

“We’re both extremely excited to embrace the role of student body president and vice president and contribute to our community in any way that we can” – Henry Bourret ’25

Now Brody, what are you most excited for next year in your new role?

“First of all I’m just grateful to all of the people who believed in Henry and me as leaders of this community. As for next year, Henry and I are looking forward to making Ranger Day the best it has been in years.” – Brody Carlson ’25

Henry, what does this role mean to you?

“Being the student body’s voice represents a great challenge and a privilege. Not only am I excited but I’m very grateful for this privilege to lead my peers. ” – Henry Bourret ’25

Anything you’d like to say as your initial statement?

“Again, thank you to everyone who votes for us, we appreciate every vote. Also, we’d like to shout out the other candidates as they all deserved this role as well and are great guys. One last thing, more chocolate milk.” – Henry Bourret ’25

I can speak to the character of these two young men as incredible representatives of the student body and genuinely humble and selfless Rangers. I’m very proud of these guys and for how much they’ve grown throughout the years.
