[Marvin] Kitten initiated Jesuit\u2019s film program in the spring semester of 1971 with a class of six students.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the Second Annual Dallas\/Ft. Worth Information Film Producers Association Student Film Competition, \u201cSteve Cook, was presented the \u2018Sandy\u2019 award for the best edited film. . . . [It] was the only high school entry honored at the college dominated festival.\u201d\u00a0 The film was \u201ca study in color and in black and white contrasting a poor boy and a rich boy at play and then in death\u201d (<em>TheTexas Catholic<\/em> May 25, 1973).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2389\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2389\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/archives.jesuitroundup.org\/2346\/history-film-society\/1979-1980-film-department\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2389\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">1979-1980 Film Department<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Jesuit \u201cwon four awards at the recent Third Annual Texas Student Film Festival.\u00a0 The statewide competition was cosponsored by the Texas Education Agency and St. Stephen\u2019s Episcopal School of Austin.\u00a0 Joe Salina won first place in the super-8 one reeler unedited category with his film. \u201cHall Hold-up.\u201d\u00a0 In the general category Jesuit won all the awards.\u00a0 Tom Unis and Richard Rankin took first place with their film entitled \u201cI\u2019ve Got One Big Hangup.\u201d\u00a0 Second place went to Steve Cook for \u201cFriday the Thirteenth\u201d and Kevin Jordan\u2019s documentary \u201cMardi Gras 73\u2019\u201d was third (<em>The Texas Catholic<\/em> May 11, 1973).\u00a0 Both of the Dallas papers also covered these details.<\/p>\n<p>In February 1975 \u201cChannel 13 conducted The Young Filmmakers\u2019 Festival.\u00a0 Films that were entered included Super 8mm, 8mm and 16mm both colored and black and white.\u00a0 Only films produced after January 1, 1973 were eligible.\u00a0 The Festival was an opportunity for young filmmakers to exhibit their works and have them viewed by film experts and the public\u201d (<em>Jesuit Today<\/em> March 1975).\u00a0 17 films were entered with 4 finalists.<\/p>\n<p>The 1975 <em>Jesuit Today <\/em>noted that Jesuit \u201cparticipated in three major Film Festivals this past year setting a new record for the number of awards won.\u00a0 There are currently five sections of Filmmaking offered at Jesuit.\u00a0 Pat Korman \u201970 joined the Jesuit faculty this year as the film instructor.\u201d\u00a0 Jesuit won five of the nine awards at the State Film Festival.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2391\" id=\"caption-attachment-2391\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">May 10, 1973 Times Herald<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The May 30, 1975 <em>The Texas Catholic<\/em> notes that \u201cFather Marvin Kitten, SJ, Jesuit film instructor, will be leaving the film department this year in order to devote his time to a special freshman program which will be initiated this fall at Jesuit.\u00a0 Pat Korman, a Jesuit alumnus and recent film graduate of SMU, will be in charge of the Jesuit film program next year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 1977 school yearbook notes that Jesuit won two first place, four second place, and five third place prizes at the Texas State Film Festival Awards.<\/p>\n<p>The 1982 <em>Roundup<\/em> reported:\u00a0 \u201cThe Jesuit Film Department is becoming an unknown organization with the
