Originally, I was going to title this article “Why Al-Farouq Aminu is the Greatest Player in the NBA,” but then I realized that there is no question about it. I shouldn’t have to even write an article to explain this, but I will anyway to give Al the respect he deserves. And yes, I call him Al. He follows me on Twitter. I can do that. Al-Farouq Aminu is the second coming of His Airness, maybe even the messiah of basketball. If you are questioning this opinion at all, just wait until I am done with the list of evidence I have compiled. You might even be wondering why you clicked on this in the first place, but I am about to drop some serious knowledge on the basketball universe. Buckle up.
1. Everyone in the world is envious of the name “Al-Farouq Aminu.” I would predict that 74.3% of men in the world hold a grudge against their parents for not naming them Al-Farouq. The name flows like a waterfall, and anyone with a “Q” at the END of their first name is guaranteed to rule the world.
Speaking of ruling…
2. HE IS A DESCENDANT FROM A LINE OF NIGERIAN KINGS. Not only is he basketball royalty, he is ACTUALLY royalty.
3. He played for the 2012 Nigerian National Team, and he had never even been to Nigeria. The dude is from Atlanta, GA. Nigeria was very lucky that they recognized his talent before the USA Men’s team offered him a starting (and probably coaching) position. I predict Nigeria will win Gold in the 6 Olympic Games. Al is that durable.
4. His official website domain is chiefhasarrived.com. What kind of next-level demigod decides to start calling himself The Chief?!? The answer: Al-Farouq Aminu
5. He has his own clothing apparel AND his own line of glasses. Name another NBA player who is THAT business savvy and can also end your life with one windmill jam.
6. He went to Wake Forest. Wake Forest breeds GOATs. Tim Duncan. Chris Paul. Al-Farouq Aminu.
7. He signed a 4yr/$30 million deal with Portland. This deal came after 1 season in Dallas where he averaged 5.6 points per game and 4.6 rebounds per game. Those numbers and that contract show you that the Trail Blazers signed him purely out of respect. Now, they are patiently waiting for the perfect time to tell him to actually start trying and take over the league.
8. He beat a James Harden euro-step so hard off the backboard that is caused a shift in the tectonic plates. And proceeded to yell “Gimme that.” This play right here is a glimpse of what Al-Farouq Aminu could do to the NBA on a night-in-night-out basis if he didn’t choose to show everyone mercy.
