The varsity debate team of senior Sterling Johnson and junior Kevin Kim earned first place honors gaining the second seed after the preliminary rounds with a perfect 4-0 record, beating Law Magnet in the finals on a 3-0 decision to win the tournament.

As a result of their first place finish, Johnson and Kim finished their qualification for the state tournament in March.  They become the second Jesuit team to qualify this fall joining seniors Ryan Gorman and Sullivan McCormick. This is the second year that Jesuit was won the varsity division of this tournament.

The team of sophomore Tanner Davis and senior Andrew Miller earned fifth place honors this past weekend at the South Garland Invitational Tournament, achieving the top seed after the preliminary rounds also with a perfect 4-0 record with wins over teams from Garland High School, Grapevine High School, Law Magnet School, and Berkner High School before losing to Grapevine in the quarterfinals for fifth place.

In the novice division, the team of freshmen James Abbott and Jackson Pyke and the team of junior Harrison Ainsworth and freshmen James Ferrara each earned third place honors by both reaching the semifinals.

Davis earned second speaker, Miller fourth speaker, Kim fifth speaker, and Johnson ninth speaker out of the 40 debaters that competed.  In the novice division, Ainsworth earned seventh speaker, Abbott earned eighth speaker, and Ferrara earned tenth speaker.

Twenty schools competed in the two day event.
