On Tuesday, April 18th the Jesuit community came together to reflect on the virtue of Gratitude. During the prayer service, Gratitude was tied into one of the most important things here at Jesuit, athletics.

Coleton Power ’23 speaks at the prayer service.

Prayer Service

At the start of the prayer service, we heard some short prayers. Then came the most impactful part of the event.  Two seniors spoke about what faith and athletics means to them. One of the seniors, Coleton Power ’23 spoke about how his faith has inspired him to evangelize to his teammates. His fellow senior, Charlie Needham ’23 spoke about his experience with Mr. Brndjar and what he called “Gratitude Tuesdays.”

After the speakers’ presentations, the entire school prayed the Prayer For Generosity, the usual prayer used to end a prayer service.

When I asked for his thoughts, Coleton Power stated the following:

“I was honored and very happy to speak in front of everyone. I am glad Mr. Gan and Mr. Brndjar trusted me to give a good message. It took a while to sit down and outline what I wanted my main points to be, but I feel that I was able to connect with the students and faculty.”

Personal Thoughts

Personally, I loved the prayer service. This prayer service has resonated with me the most out of all of them this year. Being a student-athlete myself, it was nice getting to hear the perspectives of other student-athletes and how we can use our talents for the greater glory of God.
