Last Thursday, September 8th, trotting onto their familiar home field, the Jesuit JV football team excitedly looked upon their opposition, the Highland Park JV, prepared for an action-packed game. With fans chanting their names and bright lights gleaming off their polished armor, it seemed like another perfect night to toss some pigskin.
While it was a perfect night for football, it was not a perfect night for the Jesuit JV. The boys in blue and gold fought hard, yet still came up short, losing the game 35-14. “We made mistakes on both sides of the ball, and HP capitalized on our mistakes,” commented head coach Rick Leal. “HP has a fantastic football program, and they displayed it in our game last Thursday.”
Unfortunately, the Jesuit JV hasn’t been playing great these past couple games; however, like Gus Walker ’18 commented, “Our new JV boys haven’t got much experience, but they’ll get better throughout the season.” Coach Leal echoed this belief saying, “I’m sure we’re going to perform better the next couple games,” explaining that this next week is a by-week and that they “will focus on the fundamentals and expend the whole coaching staff towards preparing the JV team for their next game.”
While the JV football may have lost to HP, they will march into their next game against Coppell more prepared than ever, with their heads held high.
