On Sunday, February 23, Jesuit hosted the annual Mother Son brunch, a cherished tradition in which students and their mothers can bond and express their love for each other over a delicious meal.
Photos & Refreshments
Upon entering the hotel where the event took place, students and their mothers checked in before a photographer took their picture, a keepsake that allowed them to remember the event. After this, students and their mothers were able to speak with friends over coffee, hot chocolate, and assorted pastries.
Opening Speech & Mass
Once families were allowed to sit down in their seats, President Earsing gave a beautiful speech about how sons should openly accept their mother’s love and not be afraid to display their affection for them, even in public. Following this, Fr. Tom, a Jesuit alumnus, gave an excellent homily on how Christians should strive to live a life in which people can know for certain that they are a follower of Jesus during the mass.

Brunch & Speakers
After Mass, sons and their mothers enjoyed a delicious meal of eggs, sausage, potatoes, and French toast along with fruit and refreshments. As the feasting started to slow down, seniors went on stage to speak about their experiences with their mothers. They spoke about how they are always there for them, regardless of how they do, as well as how they cherish their time with their mothers.
Closing Speech & Traditions
To end of the morning, Mr. Garrison made a final speech before explaining the tradition of the exchange of roses and chocolates. During this time, students gifted their mother a beautiful rose as a sign of their appreciation and love for them as their mothers gave them a bag of chocolates.
“The passion that the seniors had during their speeches about their mothers truly opened my eyes in realizing that we have a lot to thank for our mothers and that our time is limited with them.” -Jacob guyette ’28
Conclusion
The mother son brunch served as an opportunity for Jesuit students and their mothers to grow closer together in an event they will keep in their hearts. If you were not able to attend last year, consider attending next year if you are able to as it is a wonderful experience.
