Week 5 of the NFL season gave us some normalities and some surprises. One of these normalities is, well, just read the rest of the article and you’ll find out.
Rams vs. Seahawks Thrills
Two amazing Thursday Night Football games in a row?!
What sorcery has come upon us?!
No, but really, this battle between two of the NFC West’s best teams was one to remember. The two quarterbacks in this match up, Russell Wilson and Jared Goff, were spectacular in each of their own rights. However, the end of the game is where the magic began to happen. From Tedric Thompson’s crazy INT with a minute and a half left to Greg Zuerlein’s FG that came oh sooo close to winning the game for Los Angeles, the game delivered. The Seahawks are now in second place in the NFC West with a 4-1 record, and the Rams fall to 3-2 and sit at third in the division. This is a massive resume-building win for the ‘Hawks, but for the Rams this one took the term heartbreaker to a whole new level.
Teddy Ballgame and Mike Thomas Torch Bucs’ D

MAN, TEDDY!!!
Teddy Bridgewater took me and basically everyone else by complete surprise when he torched the Buccaneers’ defense en route to a 300-yard, 4-touchdown game in what was easily the best game of his young career. Of course, it helps when you have a top-five wide receiver lining up with your offense, as Michael Thomas had yet another massive performance, catching two TDs from Bridgewater in the key Saints win. This puts New Orleans at an overall record of 4-1, and they now have almost full control of the NFC South after this confidence-boosting victory.
Aaron Jones Runs All Over the Cowboys
Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones was, to say the least, absolutely dominant in a big win over the Cowboys on the road. At halftime, Green Bay had a massive lead over Dallas, and Jones was the biggest contributor to that lead, as he ended up rushing for four TDs for the game. Coming into that game (fun fact: I went to the game, and it was the very first NFL game I’d ever attended), I expected the Dallas defense to slow down and maybe even stop Jones, but, wow, was I wrong. Aaron Jones completely flipped the script on my take, and probably everyone else’s, for the game.
Colts Shut Down KC’s High-Octane Offense
The Indianapolis Colts were, in my opinion, still in the thick of the hunt for the AFC South coming into their Sunday Night match up with the offensive fireworks show that is the Kansas City Chiefs. This game was completely the opposite of what I think everyone expected it to be, with the Colts running the ball well and the Chiefs struggling on offense. To make matters worse for Kansas City, Patrick Mahomes was limping multiple times during the contest, and I think that Chiefs fans can’t help but be a little bit nervous about their star quarterback. I mean, if I were the Chiefs in this situation?
I’d be, too.
49ers Destroy Browns and Make Their Case as an NFC Contender
Even though the San Francisco 49ers started out at 3-0 heading into a Monday Night Football match up against the hyped-up Browns, I still didn’t think they were a legitimate contender due to Jimmy Garoppolo’s struggles in the past few weeks.
Jimmy, you must’ve heard me, because you and the Niners put on a show.
San Fran’s field general threw for 2 TD strikes, and he added 181 yards through the air overall. He led his team down the field for TDs or field goals on multiple possessions, of course, but the main story for San Francisco’s night was its defense. Led by standout corner Richard Sherman, the 49ers’ defense wreaked havoc onto Baker Mayfield and the Browns’ offense, securing multiple interceptions and shutting down star wideouts Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry. For the Niners, this is a big win at the perfect time, as it gives them momentum heading into a Week 6 date with the division rival Rams. For the Browns, though, the pressure continues to get to them, as they fall to 2-3 on the season.
