My NFL mock draft…
PICK # |
TEAM |
PLAYER POSITION SCHOOL
|
1 |
Panthers | Cam Newton QB Auburn Heisman winning quarterback who has the potential to be great in the NFL and the Panthers need a big time player who can change things quickly. |
2 |
Broncos | Marcell Dareus DT Alabama With the worst defense in the league last year the Broncos need major help, especially in run defense, and Dareus is the best run stopper in this draft. |
3 |
Bills | Von Miller LB Texas A&M The Bills need more help with their pass rush after finishing 27th in sacks and Von Miller is a prospect who can put pressure on the opposing quarterback almost every play. |
4 |
Bengals | Blaine Gabbert QB Missouri With their current quarterback threatening retirement if he isn’t traded, the Bengals may be in the market for a quarterback and Gabbert may be the best QB in the draft. |
5 |
Cardinals | A.J. Green WR Georgia Look for the Cardinals to take Gabbert if he falls, but, if not, Green could help the league’s worst passing offense with his playmaking and by taking pressure off Fitzgerald. |
6 |
Browns | Julio Jones WR Alabama Have you ever heard of Brian Robiskie? Exactly. He is the Browns’ current #1 receiver which is why they are in need of Jones, an athletic freak who has a bright future. |
7 |
49ers | Patrick Peterson CB LSUPossibly the best prospect in this draft, Peterson would majorly boost the league’s 24thranked passing defense with his cover skills due to his rare size and speed combination. |
8 |
Titans | Nick Fairley DT Auburn Fairley could immediately fix the Titans’ lack of talent on their defensive line with his explosive play. Look for cornerback Prince Amukamara to be an option here too. |
9 |
Cowboys | Prince Amukamara CB Nebraska The Cowboys could use a cornerback, but their biggest need is an O-Lineman so Tyron Smith would make more sense here; but Jerry Jones has been known to go with the sexy pick over the smart pick so I expect no different this year. |
10 |
Redskins | Robert Quinn DE/LB North Carolina The Redskins are in need of defensive improvements andQuinn is the best available and most versatile defensive player left on the board. |
11 |
Texans | J.J. Watt DE Wisconsin The Texans are in need of more D-Line help so look for Quinn to be their pick if he’s available; but if not Watt is the next best option with his persistent all-around style of play. |
12 |
Vikings | Tyron Smith OT USC In need of an offensive tackle to help pave the way for Adrian Peterson, Smith is the best option as the number 1 offensive lineman in the draft at 6’5’’ and 307 lbs. |
13 |
Lions | Da’Quan Bowers DE Clemson Early on Bowers was the #1 prospect in the draft but knee problems have caused him to fall. If he can stay healthy the Lions may build one of the top D-Lines with him and Suh. |
14 |
Rams | Cameron Jordan DE California It would be a steal to grab Jordan this late but also an easy pick since he would easily be the highest player left on the board and the Rams need a D-Lineman. |
15 |
Dolphins | Mike Pouncey OG/C FloridaAn offensive line that is strong on the outside with tackles but weak inside would really benefit from Pouncey who could play either guard or center. |
16 |
Jaguars | Aldon Smith DE Missouri Smith is a guy with a lot of raw talent and potential who could grow into a great NFL player. Look for the Jags to take fellow DE Ryan Kerrigan as an option too. |
17 |
Patriots | Anthony Castonzo OT Boston College With no great 3-4 defensive ends left, or OLBs, the Patriots may look to draft Castonzo as a future replacement for Matt Light who is entering his 11th year in the league. |
18 |
Chargers | Ryan Kerrigan DE Purdue Defensive end is a top need for the Chargers like many teams, and this draft is full of them. Kerrigan is the best available and is a hard working player. |
19 |
Giants | Nate Soldier OT ColoradoA monster at 6’8”, 319 lbs. and athletic, Soldier makes sense to help replace the Giants’ old offensive line which is crumbling. |
20 |
Bucaneers | Muhammad Wilkerson DE Temple Once again a team in need of a defensive end and onceagain there is another strong prospect available for them to take. |
21 |
Chiefs | Cory Liuget DT Illinois Could replace 11 year veteran Ron Edwards as the nose tackle in their 3-4 defensive set. Liuget is a strong prospect who fell because a defensive tackle wasn’t needed. |
22 |
Colts | Greg Camiri OT WisconsinA great run blocker who could drastically help the league’s 29th ranked rushing offense. Also a little more protection and time to throw for Manning never hurts. |
23 |
Eagles | Jimmy Smith CB Colorado Smith has been rising a little on draft boards but still seems to be underrated. He has the potential to start next year across from Asante Samuel. |
24 |
Saints | Adrian Clayborn DE IowaThe Saints need defensive line bolstering after finishing 18th in sacks and 16th in rush defense and Clayborn is a talented end who can help with the run defense and pass rush. |
25 |
Seahawks | Derrick Sherrod OT Mississippi State The Seahawks need a tackle and Sherrod is a good fit. They also need a QB to step in after Hasselbeck so they could take one here or trade back. |
26 |
Ravens | Aaron Williams CB TexasA solid corner who could help one of the league’s best overall defenses improve its pass defense, which ranked 21st in the league last season. |
27 |
Falcons | Brooks Reed DE ArizonaA great pass rusher is just what the Falcons need. They already have an all around solid team and with no great pass defenders available Reed makes the most sense. |
28 |
Patriots | Mark Ingram RB AlabamaA physical runner, the former Heisman winner wouldn’t fall this far in most draft classes, but because of the defensive depth of this draft he is available for the Patriots to snag. |
29 |
Bears | Jonathan Baldwin WR Pittsburgh If no offensive tackles are available, the Bears will go with Baldwin to try to boost a weak receiving core that led to the Bears having the 28th ranked passing offense. |
30 |
Jets | Phil Taylor DT Baylor Taylor is a rock in the middle who will hold his ground and eat up blockers, which will give linebackers a better chance to stop the opposing teams’ running games. |
31 |
Steelers | Danny Watkins OG BaylorA perfect pick for the Steelers who need an offensive guard. If Watkins isn’t available look for the Steelers to take the best corner, which would likely be Brandon Harris of Miami. |
32 |
Packers | Akeem Ayers OLB UCLAA versatile linebacker who can rush the QB and drop into coverage would create a deadly team pass rush with Clay Matthews rushing from the other side. |
